New York, New York – Ryan Adams Cover

So last night I was at rehearsal for the Seattle-based band I’ve been playing in, The Last Great Love (stream their music here, follow them on Twitter here, become a Facebook fan here). I got into a conversation with Brooke, one of our other guitarists, on our favorite songwriters. We both agreed that Ryan Adams is simply the greatest. In honor of his amazing work, here’s a cover of his song “New York, New York” from the brilliant album Gold. These are some of my favorite lyrics of all time, check them out here.

You and Me – Reel Karma

Somehow this hadn’t made the blog yet! Enjoy!

Neutral Milk Medley

That’s right, it’s Medley Monday! I’m hoping to pick an awesome album once a week and mash some of the great cuts into one video. This week: Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. This band made it big in the indie circuit as part of Elephant Six, a 90s label that spanned from Seattle to Colorado to Athens, Georgia. Elephant Six was responsible for bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, and Apples In Stereo.

Here are three great cuts from “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.”

Reel Karma – Change Is Gonna Come

Here is Reel Karma performing Sam Cooke’s classic “Change Is Gonna Come.” Caroline’s got that sexy rasp going on in this one, so check it out. (Sorry the camera is shaky and the first line is cut off…our camerawoman musta been intoxicated or something…)

Featuring Caroline Denton, Jared Hauser, Riley Ziesig, and Sam Shoe.

I Must Be In A Good Place Now

Today I decided to do a rendition of Bobby Charles’ I Must Be In A Good Place Now. I was originally turned on to this song from Vetiver’s covers album Thing of the Past. If you like the tune you must check out this video of Andy Cabic (Vetiver) and Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats) playing it as an acoustic guitar duet. Because their version is so good, I decided to perform mine on piano!

Western Skyline

Hello! Well, quite the weekend in NYC indeed. Two central park performances from the legendary street act Jared + Riley led to $30 (however, this money quickly disappeared in exchange for delicious Belgium beers). New Pornographers at Terminal 5 last night were mind-blowing. AND most importantly, a whole bunch new content is being made! Soon to come: a solo number from Riley, some Mario and Jared unplugged jams, and Hoodoos updates!

For the time being, I’ve decided to try out recording piano. This is a tune from the band Dawes off their album “North Hills.”

When U Love Somebody

Well they say recording in a bathroom produces some cool reverb. I’m not sure who “they” exactly are, but I’m one-upping them and recording in my super awkward basement shower…with an autoharp.

This tune is by Fruit Bats, off the album Mouthfuls.
I’ll be jamming with Riley in the city tonight, so get pumped for some STUB action in tomorrow’s post!
